3 Ways You Can Create A Sacred Space For Spirituality In Your Home

Connecting with your spirituality is an important form of self-care. Spirituality has different meanings for different people. According to the Royal College of Psychiatrists, spirituality involves the recognition of a feeling or sense or belief that there is something greater than myself, something more to being human than sensory experience, and that the greater whole of which we are part is cosmic or divine in nature.

Finding what spirituality means to you, and using that to your advantage in your self-care can transform your perspective and your mindset. You just need a few easy ways you can connect with your higher self, gods, deities, and/or the universe, as well as work with your own energy and intentions - and you’re set! And, even better, there are even ways that can be done from the comfort of your home!

  1. Create a bathroom sanctuary

Water is not only a magical tool, but it is also a common tool in alternative medicine and therapy. It has many benefits when it comes to mental and physical wellness. Its benefits range from reducing inflammation and soothing pain, to relieving stress and promoting relaxation. It’d be crazy to NOT take advantage of these benefits when it’s this easy and accessible for us.

Create a bathroom sanctuary to level up your self-care - a regular bath is something that we, as a society, already use as a self-care form, so why not make it EXTRA AF and turn it into a whole experience. Use candles, bath bombs or salts, oils, etc. Turn on your favorite calming playlist. Bring a book in the bath. Whatever makes you feel the ultimate sense of relaxation, bring it in there! You can even surround yourself with crystals to make it extra magical.

2. Cleanse your home

Energy builds up in your home over time. Have you ever had a party with lots of people and when everyone leaves, the balance in your home just feels… off? Or maybe you had a guest over that gave off a negative vibe the whole time they were there. That energy sticks inside your home and carries over into your own energy. So, it’s super important to cleanse the energy and reset your space.

Sage is a great natural tool to use to cleanse. There are also cleansing sprays that do the same. You can even simply give your home a good clean and open all the windows to let out the “stuck” energy and bring in fresh energy. It doesn’t have to be anything too complicated - just something that pushes away the energy you want to get rid of and rebalances your home.

3. Make an altar

The most important magical place where I can connect with my desires, intentions, and goals in a spiritual way in my OWN home is my altar. An altar is a physical space to creatively connect with your spiritual side. Historically it’s generally been used as a place where one worships what they believe in - but it can be used in a variety of other ways. If you’re more on the magical side, you can use it to do spell work, connect with ancestors, or perform rituals. You can even use it in more simple ways like to connect with yourself or your inner power, express gratitude, meditate, or just quiet the world.

Creating an altar is easy, because you decide everything about it. First, decide on its purpose (like what we just listed above). Then pick a space in your home for it. Try to find a spot with energy that matches how you want to feel when you use it. Then collect and arrange any items you want. There’s really no right or wrong way - just make sure it serves you.

Finding a way to connect with your beliefs and spirituality is a significant way to level up your self-care game, while also supporting your mental and emotional wellbeing, no matter what you believe in. We often overlook how much our physical environment and the energy around us affects us. That’s why it’s beneficial to maximize your physical space in easy and simple ways so you can connect with yourself more and promote positive energy around you.
