2 Moon Rituals To Incorporate Into Your Self-Care Routine

Background on Moon Rituals

The moon has a lot of energy and can affect people very deeply, especially during certain phases. That’s why a lot of people perform moon rituals during certain times, like during a new moon or a full moon.

The term “ritual” has a lot of different interpretations and doesn’t necessarily mean what you see in the movies. It doesn’t have to be “witchcraft,” although rituals are a huge part of that practice. It can also simply mean having a specific time, place, and way of performing a specific act to use the moon’s energy to enhance your life in some way.

You can perform these rituals in the days leading up to a new or full moon, the day of, or the days following.

How Moon Rituals Fit Into Self-Care

Performing moon rituals IS a form of self-care. There are many benefits that can come from these rituals because the purpose of them is to improve yourself in one-way or another. Moon rituals are great for focusing on and adjusting your mindset to set yourself up for success over the next few weeks or months.

Even if you don’t necessarily believe in this kind of thing, you can still use these time-frames as opportunities to do your own similar type of self-care. Everyone should designate time each month to focus on themselves and their mindsets to see where they can improve.

If you do believe that the moon has energy that impacts us, you may or may not know that each phase of the moon has its own energy. Understanding the difference of each phase and how you can use those to your advantage is crucial to ensure you’re maximizing your ritual.

Let’s dive into two of the main phases that you can benefit from.

New Moon Rituals

New moons are a great time to reflect, set your intentions, and manifest what you want. Use the energy during this time to call for your desires. If you have dreams, goals, and ambitions, focus on them during your ritual and map them out. How you perform your rituals is completely up to you. You can keep them simple and short, or you can use your spiritual side to guide you with different objects and spells. The only rule is to make sure you align with what your focus is.

Ideas of what to incorporate into your own new moon ritual:

  • Cleanse and create a sacred space

  • Light a candle

  • Gather supplies - crystals, salts, herbs, etc.

  • Meditate

  • Journal your thoughts or write down your intentions

  • Create a vision board or your desires

  • Affirm or release your intentions into the universe

Full moon rituals

Full moons are more of a transitional period. This is a time to reflect and let go of what’s no longer serving you. Think about what went right and wrong since you set your intentions. Did you have some self-limiting beliefs holding you back from achieving your goals? Is there some negative energy that you’ve been holding on to? Take all of that and let it go. Then, take the time to celebrate your wins and successes! Both of these things can happen simultaneously. It’s important to recognize both the good and not-so-good from the last period.

Ideas of what to incorporate into your own full moon ritual:

  • Cleanse and create a sacred space

  • Light a candle

  • Gather supplies - crystals, salts, herbs, etc.

  • Meditate

  • Journal your thoughts or write down what was holding you back

  • Have a small celebration for your wins

  • Release or let go of what no longer serves you

Moon rituals can be such a beneficial part of your self-care routine. Even if you don’t necessarily resonate with the typical “ritual” aspect, using this time to just lay out your intentions, reflect, and do some emotional and mental cleansing of your own is a great way to take advantage of the benefits and purpose of moon rituals without the label.

Learn to carve out designated time from your routine every once in a while to rebalance and refocus your mindset. It’s like a “New Year” reset without having to wait every 12 months!
