3 Tips To Improve Your Mindset By Transforming Your Home

The feeling your home gives you is more important than you might think. Whether your home is a place you work, a place you relax, a place you host guests, or all of the above, it should serve you in a positive way. The energy in your home has a huge impact on your mindset. It should be a place that comforts you when you need it, a place that relaxes you when you need it, or a place that inspires you when you need it.

Each room (and everything in and about each room) should have a positive feeling and a purpose. Your home should be a place where you set your intentions, so it’s important to get rid of any negative vibes and energy. Let’s learn some ways you can do some home self-care to make sure your space fits you and your needs so you can continue thriving!

  1. Do a home audit

A huge step to transforming your home into a space where you feel your best is to identify what needs to be changed or upgraded. Go through each room and identify any problem areas. It could be things like your furniture not matching in one room, an old and raggedy rug, or simply a messy room. Then, identify your solutions. Use this audit to simply figure out ways you can change anything that makes you feel ‘meh’ and turn them into something that makes you feel GOOD.

This process could turn into an episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”, or it could be a tiny fix that you’ve been meaning to get to for months. No matter how big or small these changes are, they’re a great step in the right direction to get you in a positive headspace while at home.

2. Declutter

This one’s pretty self-explanatory. It’s no secret that tidying up and purging old items in your home makes you feel better. That’s why spring cleaning has become so popular. But, you shouldn’t wait until spring to organize, deep clean, and declutter your space. Do it whenever you need a quick spruce up or a minor reset in your home.

I know that getting rid of your personal belongings may be difficult. We all get attached to certain things for lots of reasons. But, knowing when to let go of something is super beneficial to your mental health. Everything in your home should have a purpose - even if it’s just to make you feel good or happy when you see it. Nothing should be in your house that gives you any kind of negative feeling or makes you uncomfortable. You should only keep the items that give off positive energy. Sometimes we hold on to things to hold on to a past version of ourselves. But, if you’ve outgrown your past self, it’s time to move on to bigger and better things - including items in your home!

3. Express yourself

Your home should embody who you are and your personality. Get creative and express yourself through your decor! If you like a sleek and simple look, incorporate that. If you like unique and funky vibes, GET WEIRD! Find some art pieces or display items that represent you. Pick out furniture that makes you feel comfortable. Paint your walls a new color. There are endless possibilities when it comes to decorating your home, so don’t shy away from making exactly how you want it.

Be as wild (or tame) as you want to be! And if you hate it later, you can always change it up again. Nothing is permanent and your home should grow and change with you. It doesn’t need to be stagnant forever. It should be a space where you can be yourself unapologetically.

The bottom line is your home is your space and it should make you feel how you want it to feel. Make sure your space embodies YOU and allows you to do whatever it is you want to do in your home. Keep your spaces separate as needed - keep your sleeping area away from your work area, or keep your home gym area away from your relaxing area. Different rooms can (and should) have different energies, depending on their purpose.

Take time to refresh your home when it’s feeling a bit flat - whether that’s through decluttering, rearranging furniture, redecorating, etc. It should invoke only positive emotions from you. Anything that makes you feel otherwise, needs to go! Changing up the space you spend a lot of your time in can have a HUGE impact on your mindset - more than you may even realize.
