Creator Spotlight: Ceara Cavalieri
Ceara Cavalieri is a singer/songwriter from Southern California. Having graduated from UCLA with a degree in Psychology, Cavalieri has since dedicated herself to pursuing music full time. Her love for music stems from the age of three, where she found her voice and wouldn’t stop singing. In her teenage years she took to songwriting as a way of expressing her thoughts and feelings when her shyness prevented. With 10 single releases under her belt thus far, Cavalieri is carving out her own distinct sound of incredibly infectious and candidly relatable pop rock music. Her music has been featured on Spotify's SALT, Teen Beats, Fresh Finds, Fresh Finds Pop, Dance Paradise, SLAP!, and Dance Brandneu playlists. In 2023, she opened for Leah Kate's “Super Over” US tour and will be touring again across Europe and the UK in May 2024.
1. Introduce yourself. Tell us who you are and what you do. Give us an overview of your career so far. (If possible, include some career highs and lows.) Give us a brief description of what daily life looks like for you.
My name is Ceara Cavalieri, and I am an independent artist in Los Angeles, CA. I started pursuing music full-time right after I graduated from UCLA. My daily life consists largely of writing music, doing sessions, rehearsing for shows, practicing piano/guitar, and dance classes.
2. Tell us about your creative process. What works best for you? Have you experienced writer’s block, imposter syndrome, procrastination, perfectionism, self-doubt, or self-limiting beliefs? How did you overcome them?
My creative process is always different, but I would say that I’m constantly writing my thoughts, feelings, and song ideas in my notebook or my notes on my phone, and then I will bring that into a session and create the song based on that. I definitely struggle with perfectionism and self-doubt at times because I have a specific vision for everything that I do, and I always want it to fit that vision perfectly. Also, I did experience imposter syndrome when I first started because I found myself surrounded by so many producers and songwriters who went to school for songwriting and had been doing this their whole lives, while I went to college for Psychology and didn’t really know much about music production or even how to play an instrument. I started taking music production classes online, and began teaching myself guitar and piano, and although I’m still constantly learning, this has helped me a lot.
3. Are there any other art forms, hobbies, or interests you engage in to help restore your creative energy? What nurtures your soul? Any creative activities that recharge you?
I’ve found that it’s really important to me to have those days where I just sit by the piano and sing. When I just light a candle, play some chords, and sing whatever I’m feeling in that moment even if it doesn’t totally make sense, that's when my creativity really recharges because I'm not really thinking about anything else except what I’m feeling. I also really enjoy dancing, and love to just blast my airpods and dance around my apartment. I also started recently taking dance classes.
4. What do you do for your self-care? Share any specific strategies, habits, or techniques that you find effective in improving your mental, emotional, physical, or spiritual self-care.
This year, I have been focusing on my self-care a lot more, and the main thing that has helped me is organization and planning. I got this Law of Attraction daily/yearly planner that allows me to organize my days/weeks and set intentions for the week, which has helped me tremendously. Eating healthy is also a significant factor and remembering to workout and move around especially since making music doesn’t require much movement.
5. What’s one piece of self-care advice you would give to a person just starting out in a creative career?
The most important thing is to be gentle with yourself and to trust your intuition. There’s a lot of rejection that comes with being a creative and no matter what, don't ever let that discourage you, but instead look at it as motivation.
6. Anything else you would love your audience to know or to know about you?
My new single, "My Favorite" is out now on all streaming platforms!
7. Do you consider yourself an empath or highly sensitive person?
Yes, definitely!
